Saw this entry on the latest page, immediately decided to reply with a humorous "So I guess they're not really geologists then! Haha!", took a look at your profile, and, um... yeah, bit awkward.
Well, might as well go through with commenting since I don't know anyone here. Hi. (You don't have to pretend to read my journal or anything though.)
Well hello there! :) I'm not actually a geologist, either. The science is interesting, but primarily my motivation is aesthetic. I make jewelry with stones which I sell on Etsy, and I sell mineral specimens on eBay, and generally consider rock formations to be natural sculpture. But I'm here because I like to also read slash and as you said about DW "the people in charge seem to care about privacy, and the fact that it's being run for its users and not for advertisers." Thanks for commenting!
Edinburgh rock is (1) the volcanic plug on which Edinburgh castle stands or (2) a soft seaside confection (it's crumbly where proper seaside rock is hard).
I Googled and admired pictures of the lovely rock and the awesome castle that does appear to grow out of it. perhaps i should add volcanic plug to my interests? the candy appears to be a lot more popular!
